Les Cartographes by drahomira Les Cartographes by drahomira
Between 1917 and 1929, four incestuous sisters from Switzerland worked on the making of a map of the invisible world. Each year, they tried to present their work in progress at the SSSS Congress but were always rejected and laughed at by the scientifical community. In 1929, after 12 years of work, feeling humiliated and misunderstood, they set their lab on fire and died together among the thousands of documents they produced during the past 12 years.

haha, oh man, thats great. i did this thing called 'the blind cartographer' just a week or so ago, and you totally beat me to it. i hate you now! haha, just kidding, of course.

i must find the remains of their lab, surely the fire spared a few pages, a few clues, a few glimpses... but at least their portrait survives.

from one cartogropher to another, salute!

The look of the full-size picture is overwhelming, there's a great contrast between the circles and the rest of the picture which is unsettling to the eye, but works great on the mind...
Can you tell us more about this story???

1. Great use of texture (this BEGS to be viewed at fullsize to be fully appreciated)

2. Love the vintage figures... they look like old lithographs or woodcuts. Did you find them or create them?

3. I like how the graphical elements tie together the composition.

4. The title, the maps and the story are all interlinked bringing a greater meaning to the piece.

Good work. +fav

This is a very beautiful and not to mention stylish picture. The background story is sweetly
melancholic and your picture captures it´s atmosphere completely. I could easily imagine
this picture hanging is some expensive art deco restaurant, or better yet in a art gallery.
Truly inspired piece of work.
